One Flower Wednesday

It's nice to be using Civil War era fabrics again to make my hexie flowers! If you recall, I made several with this center fabric before I began the I SPY quilt. So, I'm back to these now, and wanted to use one of my new toiles. The background fabric that it is laying on, was given to me by my friend Sherri, over in Macon, GA.
I've shown you flowers like this before, which are on the pergola at Dungeness. http://www.cumberlandislandquiltchick.com/2010/06/one-flower-wednesday.html
Well, I've found these in another location. I'll show you soon, when I have the time to watermark my photos. Don't worry, not much longer...

In the meantime, here's a post on another blog. It was written by a gentleman who lives in London, England, and has never visited Cumberland. He's a "virtual traveler"~ With the use of other's photos and researching the history of various places....It's his hobby.
Thank you Melissa (Andreasnest), for sharing this with me.

We still have LOTS of Painted Buntings here at our feeders.

I've been inside quilting on Ethan's I SPY. It's extremely HOT, humid and buggy here. We have 2 big central A/C units for the main parts of our home, and one window unit in my studio.  All are running as hard as they can at all times... Did you know we have to pay a 50% surcharge on our electricity here?!!?

Your toile flower is gorgeous!! What a great colour!! What a beautiful bird that is, no painted buntings here in Holland, too bad! Happy sewing, hugs, Daniëlle

I don't envy that surcharge. That is ridiculous!
Your flower is sooooo lovely and I LOVE that fabric its laying on too.
Stay cool. We are having some warm temps here too, but there is a breeze so I guess that's good even though it's a warm one.
Hugs to you!

Another lovely flower for your hexie garden! And that trumpet vine's not bad, either! Love the painted buntings...used to see them in Louisiana all the time, but have never seen one here in Ohio! And that's pretty rotten that you have to pay ANY surcharge, let alone a 50% one, for your electricity!

XOXO,

Cyndi

Do you have any hummingbirds around the red flowers?? I love your painted buntings, they are beautiful, Do you have a lot this year? So sorry about the surcharge, that is plain robbery on the part of the electric company. Hope it cools down soon. Your hexie flower-looks sharp with the civil war fabric.

Dear Sandra,

How wonderful that you have another hexagon flower project on the go...now we do not have to miss you on our wednesday walks. I like the flower very much...it is so 'stylish'.

All the best,
Tineke

Hi Sandra,

I love the flower(s) and I've read the blogpost of Kuriositas. Kind of a sad story though. I suppose you are one of the descendents of the original families?

I love your flower. I shudder to think what our bill would be if we had to pay the 50% surcharge.

An elegant flower. Like the centre and petal combination.
50% yow! that hurts. We just had solar panels installed and they predict we should make most of our power needs.
Not much gtowing or blooming at the moment so not many birds around. The painted bunting is joyous,

Lately I've heard about so many ridiculous things going on behind the scenes with energy and costs and charges. I'm so sorry that you have such a drastic cost for your A/C and electricity. OUCH!

I like the toile fabric in the center of your flower. Looks familiar -- I think I have some.

I like Terry's word to describe the painted bunting -- joyous!

Love the toile hexagon. You are speedy with those hexagons girly...

Today I finished 3 sets of ruffled pillow cases :O).

50% surcharge, wow that is high. We have three units on our house, not really because its huge but because when we built we wanted it zoned to save electricity :O)... one unit went down a couple days ago, only six years old grrrrr... it was fixable and has been fixed! $266.00 later. The guy said the part he had to replace they had been replacing in the last week like crazy. The heat no doubt is making the AC's kick on and off a lot more! A couple more months and it will let up.

A virtual traveler ... interesting...

Thought I would leave acomment about the orange flower!
Campsis, or Trumpet Climber or Trumpet flower is a hardy plant that can grow as long as 5 to 10 meters! I prune it in the spring to maintain a more compact form!
I just planted one a few days ago here in The Netherlands.
Enjoy gardening!

I love your 'new' flower, the toile, but the background fabrics is lovely too!.
I wish we had that kind of pretty birds over in Holland, would love to see them in real live.
And... it's cooling down here in Holland WOOHOO!.. LOL

First time visiter and I want to say-you've got a great page. Both your flowers are interesting and beautiful, but my favorite part of your blog is the guess who is coming to visit. Thanks.

The civil war fabric, pictures of historic buildings, give-away of a history book, link to a history buff ---- am seeing a pattern here! Great post, love the bird feeding. I have bookmarked the Cumberland Island book on Amazon in case I don't win...

Have a great day!
