One Of My Antique Pennsylvania Quilts

I'll show you more quilts later, most are in storage on the mainland out of this humidity.  For today, I found this one and brought it out onto the deck to air out. I tried to get a good closeup of the trapunto, applique and quilting. While, it's not in very good condition, it's a great time capsule. It belonged to my mother in law, who was from N.C. and did go to Pennsylvania to buy antiques. The cotton has no seeds and has been carded well before being used. I love the cheddar and red. The foliage color was so pretty during its day, having a blue tint. Well, I just wanted to share these photos! I have never done trapunto, but it looks very time consuming. I'd love to hear what you have to say! Any input would be greatly appreciated.

This is for all of my displaced "Scarlett's" out there...

What a beautiful old quilt - much loved :0) Thanks for the close up shots. I like that the background is quilted with the interlocking circles.

What is that flower?

That is a beautiful quilt. The trapunto is great. The green probably was over-dyed green (blue dye + yellow dye) but the yellow dye faded over time leaving the blue cast.

Hey Sandra'

I LOVE that quilt!!! It is amazing. What a qift to be entrusted with! Thanks for sharing your treasure with us. How are things on that lovely island? Jen and I went out today and bought the fabric for a quilt she wants me to make for her to take to school. I have to tell ya...I have a few butterflies about cutting it out (without someone helping me). There maybe a few trips back to the quilting store ;)

Wishing you a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Wow Sandra, I love the quilt and also the picture of the Magnolia, ours has buds but no flowers yet, I can hardly wait, that's my favorite flower, I've loved them since 1979 when I saw and smelled my first bud!
